Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School

A livelier life drawing event, Dr. Sketchy’s is where artists of all levels draw fabulous burlesque and variety performers. Enjoy delicious cocktails and compete in zany drawing contests to win free drinks and other awesome prizes! We’ll start off with quick 1- and 2-minute gesture poses and gradually move up to 20-minute sketches. No drawing experience is necessary; just bring your own drawing materials—plus generous cash tips for our model—and join us for some fun figure sketching practice!

After having to postpone her session in January, we’re excited to finally have the marvelous Maria Bella—a longtime Sketchy’s fan favorite, as well as personally one of our favorite people—at Mobtown Ballroom, now in a freshly renovated space in the Station North Arts District, just down the block from where our old home at the Windup Space was! Come hang out early (doors open at 6) to snag the best seats and a drink—and dinner, since Mobtown Ballroom will also be serving delicious food—then stay after drawing to share your work with fellow artists over a last drink or two.

As always, join in our crazy drawing contests for a chance to win some free booze and other neat prizes! No drawing experience is necessary—just remember to bring your own drawing materials, and be ready to generously tip our model. If you’re relatively new to Dr. Sketchy’s Baltimore or otherwise haven’t had the pleasure of drawing Maria Bella before, here’s a little bit about our March muse:

Maria Bella, Baltimore’s Sicilian Queen, is a touring producer, award-winning international performer, and musician. Her touring stage show, The Carnivalesque Roadshow, opened for Storm Large of Pink Martini at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She founded Baltimore’s Best Burlesque Troupe, Gilded Lily Burlesque in 2007, which has graced stages across the U.S. And she is co-producer of The Charm City Burlesque & Variety Festival which debuted September 2023.
