Lindy 500 2012, Baltimore’s yearly Swing and Lindy Hop weekend is coming up August 17-19, and we are of course hosting it at The Mobtown Ballroom. This year Kevin St. Laurent and Jo Hoffberg are returning. They are a couple of the premiere Lindy Hop teachers in the world, and they have developed a special relationship with the Baltimore scene. You can see them stage diving into the Baltimore crowd at last year’s International Lindy Hop championships here (around 7:15):
This year, because we’ve blown up the swing scene in Baltimore, we’re taking Lindy 500 to a whole new level. There will be three full nights of dancing, two nights with the Gordon Webster band, two days of workshops (with two tracks), a mellow jams/soul dance party on Sunday night, a variety of contests, and, most importantly, late night dancing until 5 am on Friday and Saturday. We are currently setting up a DJ experiment for the late nights that will blow your mind.
If you already live in Baltimore, you know how fun this will be. If you’re from out of town, you’re in for a real shock. Baltimore is the hands-down funkiest dance scene in the country. We do it right here.
More details will be forthcoming as we finalize the class schedule and contest information, but early registration is going up now. In order to make sure that there is enough space in class, we are limiting registration for full passes, and we expect it to sell out. For those of you who want to lock it down early, we are offering full weekend passes for the first 20 registrants at the obnoxiously low price of $89/$79 for students. Sign up now or live in regret.
